During my years of building websites I have gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge. I’ve put this FAQ page together to help answer many of the frequently asked questions I have been asked along the way.

I’m new to this whole website thing, how does it work?

Great question! Never fear, I’m here for you. You can learn all about my website consultation and building process in the Website Process section.

How much does a website cost?

Just like the cost of a house may vary, the cost of a website also varies depending on the unique needs of the project. It is helpful to have a budget in mind that you can invest into your website and this can be included in the Website Questionnaire; we can then explore this further when we discuss the requirements of your new website.

As a guide, for a basic business site my website projects start in the region of £1,000 but vary depending on your requirements.

How long does it take to design and build a website?

The time it takes to produce a website depends on the size and complexity of your site and the quality of content that you have ready to go. A basic website with all content ready and available from you typically takes around four weeks from beginning to end.

Will my website work on mobile devices?

Yes it will. All the websites I build work on all devices. Depending on your requirements I can design and develop your site using responsive design so that the site is optimised for mobile devices. This also helps to improve your search engine ranking.

Do I need my own domain name and web hosting?

Yes, you will need this and I can help you get set up with your domain name and hosting specifically suited to your website’s requirements.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is your address on the internet. Typically this would be something like yourcompany.co.uk

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is a service that allows your website to be viewed on the internet. It’s basically a computer housed in a data centre that runs your website and email.

What is a Content Management System?

A Content Management System is a tool that allows you to maintain the pages of your website yourself, without the need for any technical skills. A CMS allows you to edit and add pages, images, products or blog entries to your website. No additional software is required—all you need is a web browser and an internet connection. This isn’t to say that I’m not here to help you after your new site goes live though! Check out my Care Packages to see how I can continue to support you.

Do you build WordPress websites?

Yes, I primarily build my clients’ websites using WordPress. At the time of writing this, WordPress is powering 30% of the world’s websites and has proven to be a very user-friendly, powerful and versatile tool.

Do you provide training?

Yes, I can provide you with training to help you get around and update content on your new website.

What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimisation is all about getting your website higher up in the search results on search engines such as Google. The higher up the results you are the more traffic (and customers) you’re likely to get.

There are many aspects that go into achieving good SEO, and one of the most important is the copy (text content) on your website. Focus on well written, keyword rich and appropriate content is the key.

Can you design my logo?

Absolutely! Your logo and branding are a vital part of your website. Head on over to my Graphic Design section for more information.
